Mariana Montoya,
Consultant

Mariana Montoya works as a consultant at the Universal Rights Group in Bogotá (Colombia). During her time at the Universal Rights Group, Mariana has focused on projects relating to contemporary and emerging human rights issues and human rights and religion. She is currently working on projects on corruption and human rights, the situation of environmental human rights defenders, and the impact of the HRC’s Special Procedures. She is currently heading the office of the URG in Latin America.

Mariana holds a Masters's Degree in Development from the University of Cambridge, and a Graduate Degree in Development, and a Law Degree from Universidad de los Andes, Colombia. Her master’s thesis provided an analysis of the different approaches to poverty, including from a human development perspective. She previously worked in academia as a public law researcher and in the private sector in corporate law.
